The client needed to clean and dry multiple piping systems at a new green hydrogen plant in the Netherlands, designed to become one of the largest green hydrogen facilities in Europe. The facility included nitrogen, instrument air, plant air, demineralized water, and hydrogen piping ranging from 1” to 24”. Precommissioning was complex because the project involved new technology, multiple contractors working simultaneously, and several interdependent activities. The diversity of systems, materials, and acceptance criteria required close coordination, flexibility, and a continuous focus on safety.

Intero maintained a continuous on-site presence throughout the project, led by a dedicated project engineer and supported by an experienced execution team. The team worked closely with the customer from a project management and engineering perspective, continuously adapting to the project progress. We proactively engineered cleaning and drying work packs, coordinated schedules with other contractors, and used dry air to clean and dry the piping systems after hydrotesting. Each work pack included detailed work instructions, valve and equipment removal lists, and highlighted drawings to define system boundaries and avoid impact on adjoining systems.

All piping systems within Intero’s scope were cleaned and dried to the customer’s specifications and satisfaction, with no safety incidents recorded. In some cases, the client used camera inspections to verify the results. The effective cleaning and drying performed during construction also helped the customer achieve final drying specifications quickly during commissioning. Intero’s continuous site involvement, proactive engineering, experienced personnel, and close collaboration were key contributors to the project’s success.
