Press Release: Intero – The Sniffers announces its support for Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions
Intero – The Sniffers has joined over 80 companies, including major oil and gas producers, service companies and leading global consultancies, in pledging to support the global “Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative” to reduce methane emissions from oil and gas operations to near zero by 2030.
Reducing methane emissions from oil and gas production is one of the quickest ways to help achieve the ambitions of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming. It is a top priority for the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), which launched the initiative last year.
Philippe Guldemont, Managing Director of Intero – The Sniffers said: “As a global service provider in emission management and pipeline integrity programs for the oil, gas, and (petro)chemical industry, we have over 30 years of experience in realizing our customers’ environmental, sustainability, and integrity ambitions with emission monitoring projects and pipeline inspection surveys. By supporting the Aiming for Zero Initiative, we reinforce our commitment to help our customers strive for a net zero emissions future. We embrace the power of innovation and collective action in the quest for a greener tomorrow.”
Bjorn Otto – Executive Committee Chairman said: “I’m delighted that Intero – The Sniffers has joined the Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative. Their commitment will help to strengthen this vital initiative. Intero – The Sniffers is a global leader in detecting and measuring emissions and their support will play an important role in enabling this industry-wide effort to reduce methane emissions.”
OGCI is a CEO-led initiative bringing together 12 of the world’s largest energy companies to lead the oil and gas industry’s response to climate change. The group aims to accelerate collective action towards a net zero emissions future consistent with the Paris Agreement.
Aiming for Zero complements a number of other multi-stakeholder initiatives to reduce methane emissions, including the Methane Guiding Principles, the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 and the Global Methane Alliance.
OGCI background:
- OGCI members produce around 30% of global oil and gas.
- OGCI’s member companies have collectively reduced their own upstream methane emissions, achieving a reduction in their methane intensity target four years early, while continuing to reduce flaring.
- Since 2017, these actions have reduced absolute upstream methane emissions by 40% and cut flaring by a third.
