Fitness for purpose assessments
Fitness for purpose assessments
Fitness for purpose (FFP) is a best practice used by the oil & gas and chemical process industries for in-service equipment to determine its fitness for continued service. FFP serves as a rational basis for defining flaw acceptance limits and allows engineers to distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable flaws and damage based on industry recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices.
We can perform evaluations using the following methods and standards:
- API570
- British standard PD8010:2016
- Metal losses: ASME B31G:2009, Modified, DNV RP F101, API579/FSS level 1
- Dents: DVGW 473
- Laminations: British standard PD7910:2005
- POF 2009 /2016
Objectives
- Determine whether it is safe to operate the pipeline
- Satisfy regulatory requirements
- Identify necessary action to ensure safety
How do we do that
- Review of the inspection result and description of the detected anomalies
- Assessment of metal loss features
- Assessment of Dents
- Recommendations for further investigations, remediation and inspection interval
